Perpetraters
People that chose to participate in these horrific acts mainly had originally started out being pressured to do them. The government would tell them what they needed to do, and they would do it, at first reluctantly, but slowly they become numb to what they are doing and almost enjoy themselves. This is what happened to Ishmael Beah in his book, he became numb to what he was doing and then began to enjoy himself as he killed other people.

PTSD
In a book I read recently, a group of people are obsessed with their fears, and try to overcome them. Most of these fears were produced by past traumatic moments, and one of the ways that the characters overcame their fears was by facing them.ggbb By facing their fears, they acknowledge it.

bhbbggg
I agree to this idea to an extent. The people that benefited from the regime should be responsible, if not punished, but with varying degrees depending on what they did in the regime. I agree with that movie that Ms. Saxelby recommended about being marked with what they did forever as punishment.
Justice connects to forgiveness because they are both equally needed, especially for an event like this.

Is is rebellious
The acts of revolution/rebellion in Nostalgia for Light are the complaints from the women who had suffered from the Pinochet regime. Also, by talking about what actually happened to the prisoners in the camps and the suffering from the Pinochet regime are in itself rebellious because no one would make a documentary like this one if they weren't opposed to what happened. The architect who was in the concentration camp who committed everything to memory was very rebellious because Pinochet didn't want any word of the concentration camps were like.

Arpilleras
I think that the Arpilleras were not as effective as physical protests, but were very good if one wanted to stay under the radar. In itself, it is not going to overthrow the government, but is effective for spreading the word. Its like a loophole, the government cannot arrest them.

Congolese Genocide
The reason it took so long to unearth the Congolese genocide is because:
- No one really payed that much attention to the Congo
- King Leopold had deceived everyone else into thinking that his work in the Congo was humane
- King Leopold had the power to keep word of the Congo from spreading

Identity
What is identity?
Identity is the stuff that makes a person, like character. What a person does, how they do it, and why they do it. How you and others define yourself. What your actions, opinions, and beliefs are.
Is identity a fixed and constant or dynamic and changing? Does Gringolandia provide evidence to support your argument?
Identity is dynamic and changing, for instance, in Gringolandia, when Marcelo came back from prison, his identity changed.
